Police say it’s fortunate a group of people weren’t seriously burnt or worse after they tampered with a cable box at an electricity substation.
Manx Utility Authority engineers found the damage to the substation at the rear of Ocean Ford garage, close to the railway line in Castletown.
Officers believe the group were drinking lager in the compound before prising open the box of high voltage equipment.
Temporary repairs have been carried out but more permanent work will need to be done at a later date which will lead to a significant number of homes in Janet’s Corner in Castletown having their power switched off.
The fence around the substation is being repaired to prevent further access to the site.
There’s also going to be a presentation to schoolchildren highlighting the danger of electricity.
