Low turnout at first public meeting on police modernisation plans

The first of four public meetings to explain changes to the Manx police force was held in Douglas last night (Mon 11th)

The constabulary is going through a period of modernisation in a bid to meet restricted budgets.

It means the closure of some stations, a reduction in the number of officers and a general streamlining of services.

But despite the potential for concern, the meeting for the central district, covering Douglas, Onchan and Braddan only attracted 18 people.

Most of them were local authority members, and there were two MHKS.

Chief Constable Gary Roberts says there could be a couple of reasons for that.
