MHK calls for report into active travel

An MHK says there's a long way to go to increase the number of people using active travel, and that the transport strategy doesn't cover this.

Douglas Central member Chris Thomas will ask Tynwald to call for a report into the application of strategies and policies regarding active travel and parking at this month's sitting.

The previous active travel strategy lapsed in 2021, but the subject features heavily in the transport strategy, which is also due to be debated at October's Tynwald sitting.

Mr Thomas says that document is lacking in detail:

In response, the Department of Infrastructure says: "The Transport Strategy sets out the Government’s principles for delivering the infrastructure and transport services the Island needs over the next decade.  The strategy is an overarching one that will be supported by additional plans, such as bus and rail.

"These are currently in development and will help the Government to realise its aim of delivering an inclusive, safe and sustainable transport system to meet the needs of the Manx people."
