Local boat able to assist before emergency crews arrived
Port St Mary Lifeboat was called out after an open water swimmer in Castletown Bay got in trouble.
The person signalled a distress call at around 6pm last night, when the RNLI launched both its inshore and all-weather lifeboats.
However a boat nearby became aware of the situation and was able to assist.
When the lifeboat arrived they transferred the casualty and took them ashore.
Coxswain Michael Keggen thanked those on the nearby vessel for their quick thinking, 'which ultimately helped to save the [person's] life'.
