Last chance to give views on Criminal Justice system

Today's the deadline to make views known on plans for a radical overhaul of the Island's criminal justice system.

The Home Affairs department wants to streamline the system to make it faster, simpler to use and cheaper to run.

Proposals include offering more alternatives to prison and increasing the number of offences punished by fixed penalty fine.

In the year 2010-11 the cost of criminal justice in the Isle of Man, including the prison, probation service and police costs, was almost £15 million.

Like other departments, Home Affairs is under pressure to find savings.
