Jury considers verdict at by-election fraud trial

The jury in the Douglas East by-election fraud trial has been sent out to consider its verdicts.

After five-and-a-half weeks of evidence, Deemster Turner told them to scrutinise what they'd heard with care and said there was no time pressure upon them.

He said only if the prosecution made them feel sure the offences were committed, they should return a 'guilty' verdict, but if they're not sure they must return a 'not guilty' verdict.

He told them the verdicts must be unanimous and not based on majority.

Twenty-five-year-old Kerry Rothwell of Onchan and 40-year-old Gail Corrin of Douglas deny dishonestly obtaining proxy votes in the 2010 Douglas East by-election.
