It's the first flag state to do so

The Isle of Man Ship Registry (IOMSR) has become the first flag state to join the SafetyTech Accelerator Methane Abatement in Maritime Innovation Initiative (MAMII).

It's a global program aimed at cutting methane emissions from ships.

MAMII brings together shipowners, technology developers, regulators, and classification societies to create innovative solutions that help the shipping industry meet international greenhouse gas targets.

By involving flag states like the IOMSR, the initiative looks to make sure new technologies are developed safely and comply with global regulations.

IOMSR Director Cameron Mitchell says: “Joining MAMII demonstrates our commitment to sustainable maritime operations. Collaboration is key to solving real-world challenges, and the SafetyTech Accelerator is a great platform to make progress on these issues.”

Managing Director of SafetyTech Accelerator, Marius Suteu, adds: “Flag states play a vital role in guiding early-stage innovation with regulatory insights. The Isle of Man’s leadership sets an important precedent for safely integrating methane reduction technologies into the global fleet.”
