MIAA finds health and care model 'not operating as well as originally intended'

The Isle of Man Medical Society says it feels 'vindicated' by a review into Manx Care and the body's relationship with the Department of Health and Social Care.

The report from the MIAA found that the current health and social care model in the Isle of Man 'is not operating as well as originally intended' following the establishment of Manx Care.

The society says it's recognised many of the issues that it has 'consistently identified as requiring urgent improvement'.

Isle of Man Medical Society Chair and Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist Dr Prakash Thiagarajan and Consultant Radiologist Dr Vanina Finocchi have been speaking to Manx Radio:

The report from the Mersey Internal Audit Agency (MIAA) will be laid before Tynwald at next month's sitting for members to debate, with plans for the DHSC to report to the court in February 2026 with a 'full response and implementation plan'.

The Department of Health and Social Care says it would like to thank the Isle of Man Medical Society for 'engaging positively on this important topic, and looks forward to the matter being debated at the December sitting of Tynwald'.

Manx Care has been approached for comment.
