Experienced specialist to help strengthen Island’s defence against emerging financial crime risks

The Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission has announced Nicola Libreri as its new Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

Mrs Libreri has been with the regulator since 2018 and most recently oversaw the GSC’s newly created Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Division, which covers inspections, enforcement, policy and outreach.

Chief Executive Mark Rutherford believes she has played a key role in strengthening the Commission’s AML/CFT oversight over the past year and would continue driving initiatives to support the sector in tackling emerging risks.

He says her appointment would help strengthen collaboration with other agencies to prevent criminal exploitation of the Island’s gambling sector.

Mrs Libreri holds diplomas in AML/CFT and Governance, Risk and Compliance, alongside international experience in delivering training and contributing to regulatory panels.

She has worked both on-Island and overseas, including supporting the Council of Europe on the development of AML/CFT frameworks in Serbia.

In a statement, Mrs Libreri says: “The threat of money laundering and terrorist financing is constantly evolving and we need to keep on top of new and emerging risks.

“It is vital to ensure we maintain the safety of the sector and the jurisdiction, invest in strong controls and work with licence holders to stamp out any threats to that safety.”
