Island's system of government 'slower than other parliaments'

Chief minister says he has to respect CoMin's collective responsibility

The chief minister admits the Island's political system means government can be slower than parliamentary systems in other countries.

Some backbenchers were critical of the lack of progress made on reaching the targets set out in the Island Plan when the latest update was discussed in Tynwald earlier this week.

With 18 months to go until the next House of Keys election, Alfred Cannan says he'd like to be able to make more unilateral decisions, but has to respect the collective responsibility shared by the Council of Ministers.
