Manx farmer says local growers are falling behind their UK counterparts

A Manx farmer says the future of the Island's horticulture sector could be 'quite grim' as local producer are falling behind their UK counterparts.

James Allanson, who grew up on his family's horticultural farm in the north of the Island, recently returned to the Island after completing his university studies off Island.

He believes growing crops and plants can be as challenging as livestock due to the need for daily upkeep and the risk of disease.

He told Manx Radio trying to keep up with British farmers is quite a challenge for the Manx sector:
