Island veteran commemorates 75 years since D-Day landings

Hector Duff only remaining Normandy veteran here at 99 years old

Today marks 75 years since the D-Day landings at Normandy.

A service of remembrance to honour those Manxmen who stormed the beaches in France was held on Douglas' North Quay this morning.

The Island's only remaining Normandy veteran is 99-year-old Hector Duff, who survived the landings, as well as campaigns in Italy and North Africa.

He is the last of a generation who in his own words, saw things that 'no pen in the world could write.'
