Island school in contention for innovative award

A secondary school in the west of the Island could receive $100,000 to spend on an renewable energy project in the next few weeks.

Queen Elizabeth the Second High School in Peel, which earlier this year achieved green flag status, has reached the final of the Zayed Future Energy prize after beating off competition from hundreds of other entries in the world's biggest award for innovation in renewable energy and sustainability.

The school is up for a possible slice of half a million dollars available in the Global High School category.

Competition organisers will now fly representatives from the school out to Abu Dhabi in January for the announcement of the winner.

Head of Life Skills at QE2, Leslie Sleight, says it's been an amazing achievement by the students to get so far, as there was a lot of work involved at each stage.
