Price of oil rises steeply due to conflict in Middle East
The Isle of Man Government has underlined safeguards which are in place to protect consumers due to the threat of rising fuel prices.
It's due to the situation in the Middle East as a result of the US-Israel war with Iran.
Although the oil price per barrel has fallen back from its recent high of almost 120 dollars it's described as still significantly higher than it was before the war started.
On the Island there is no statutory requirement for fuel retailers to give advance notice or warnings about prices increases even if that rise is significant.
However retailers must adhere to the Isle of Man Price Marking Order.
That means clearly displaying prices, making sure they are unambiguous, easily identifiable and clearly legible at the point of sale.
The Office of Fair Trading monitors fuel prices in the Isle of Man and publishes a comparison with retail prices in the UK.
