Island now has almost 200 public defibrillators

Almost 200 publicly accessible emergency defibrillators have been installed around the Island in recent years.

The equipment, which provides resuscitation to a heart attack victim, can now be found in many public locations, offices and other buildings.

Its 'foolproof' safety system means they can even be used by children, under instruction from 999 operators or using an inbuilt voice guidance system.

Local businesses have funded many of the Island's 185 defibrillators, in association with ambulance services and the charity Craig's Heartstrong Foundation.

Chairman Paul Healy says more funding for the Foundation will enable them to provide more lifesaving boxes in additional locations.
