The former treasury minister says there will always be challenges with budgets, but the Isle of Man has 'a lot' in reserves.
Alex Allinson was in charge of the public purse for most of this administration until he was fired by the chief minister last month.
On Tuesday, the newly appointed Treasury Minister, Chris Thomas, delivered his budget which, he said, represents ‘stability, security and confidence’.
Comparing the document to what he had intended to publish, Dr Allinson says Mr Thomas and Alfred Cannan changed things and found money for a personal allowance.
He adds, however, long-term government policy and financial policy need to balance things out:
