Crown dependencies to commission own designs
The Isle of Man will be able to design its own version of the new UK pound coin.
The 12-sided coin was introduced in 2017 by the UK Treasury and was billed as the "most secure coin in the world".
The original designs featured the Northern Irish shamrock, Welsh leek, Scottish thistle and English rose.
However, it's now been announced that the Crown Dependencies of the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey as well as UK overseas territories such as Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands will be able to commission their own designs.
The UK Treasury, which oversees the Royal Mint based in south Wales, said the move would underline the close links between the UK and its territories and the new versions are expected to feature images celebrating the heritage of the territories, with their history and culture pictured on the reverse side.
