Chief Constable's report: figures good, but budgets stretched

Statistics in the Chief Constable's Annual Report show significant shortfalls in police resources, but the Isle of Man is still the safest place to live in the British Isles.

Recorded crime in 2016/17 was the third lowest in 40 years - although, with an increase in financial and cyber crime, and sexual offences on the rise, more officers are needed to pick up the extra workload.

Almost 2,200 crimes were recorded in the 12 months from 1 April last year to 31 March this year - an increase of 11 per cent.

However, with a crime detection rate of 46.9 per cent - more than double the UK average - confidence remains high.
