Interim information commissioner's appointment set to be extended

Chief minister will ask Tynwald to extend appointment

The Island's interim information commissioner is set to continue in the role for another six months as the recruitment process for a permanent replacement continues.

Stewart Haynes was appointed for a six-month term in July, which is due to expire next month, after Iain McDonald stepped down from the role.

Chief Minister Alfred Cannan will ask Tynwald to extend the appointment when it sits in January.

A shortlist of candidates who've applied for the role on a permanent basis will be interviewed this month.

The information commissioner is responsible for regulating the Freedom of Information Act and data protection laws on the Island.
