Inquest into death of Northern Irish visitor opened

73-year-old died following incident in Peel Harbour

The inquest into the death of a visitor from Northern Ireland has been opened at Douglas Courthouse.

Seventy-three-year-old Raymond Beattie, from County Down, was involved in what police described as a ‘tragic accident’ in Peel Harbour on 1 June.

He died in the Emergency Department at Noble’s Hospital after falling into the water, in the early hours, whilst boarding a boat that was moored there.

The retired businessman’s cause of death was given as reflex cardiorespiratory arrest due to, or as a consequence of, sudden immersion in sea water.

Offering her condolences Coroner of Inquests Jayne Hughes said: “His death must have come as a terrible shock to them whilst he was enjoying a holiday on the Isle of Man.”

She released his body so that funeral arrangements can be made and adjourned the inquest to a date to be set.
