Inflation on the Island up to 1.9%

Rises in cost of education, alcohol and transport

The annual rate of inflation on the Island increased to 1.9% in April - up from 1.3% in March.

The figure, calculated by the Consumer Price Index, showed the increase to be mainly caused by rises in the cost of education, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and transport.

However, there was no inflationary pressure from health, and items such as tea, furnishings and electrical appliances have seen prices drop over the twelve months to the end of April.

The figure as calculated by the Retail Price Index also stood at 1.9%
