
Food and non-alcoholic beverages biggest contributor
Inflation on the Island stands at 7.6% for May, down from 8.5% in April.
The Consumer Prices Index shows the category 'Food and non-alcoholic beverages' was the biggest contributor to the rate of inflation with an increase of 17.6%. Within that, eggs experienced the highest rise at 55.1% compared with twelve months ago.
The category 'Restaurants and hotels' exhibits the second biggest increase, having risen 14% compared with 12 months ago. 'Wines & spirits 'on' sales' has seen the biggest increase in this category (22.7%).
The third biggest contributor to the rate of inflation was 'Alcoholic beverages and tobacco', which show a rise of 9.9%.
