Man pleads guilty to two charges

A man who fraudulently claimed more than £2,700 income support has been told he won’t be jailed for his crimes.

Fifty-four-year-old Roger Moore pleaded guilty to two charges of making false representations to obtain benefits.

At Douglas courthouse, magistrates heard he was claiming benefits between May and September last year – but was also working for a security firm.

But an anonymous tip-off to the Treasury led to an investigation which landed him in court this week.

After the member of the public said they’d spotted him working at a civic amenity site, benefits officers launched a probe into Moore, of Bretney Mews in Jurby.

They carried out surveillance but didn’t see him at work – however, they asked for his account details from Isle of Man Bank.

After combing through his records, they found a number of undeclared regular payments from Protec Security Services.

Magistrates bailed Moore in the sum of £500 and asked for a pre-sentencing report to be compiled.

He’ll appear in court again on Tuesday, 12 February.
