Hybrid bus undergoes trial on Manx roads

Mercedes model to be tested on a number of routes

A hybrid bus is being trialled on Manx roads over the next two weeks.

The Mercedes Citaro charges its battery every time the vehicle brakes, and uses the battery power to accelerate.

The Isle of Man Government says it's testing the technology as part of its aim to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The bus will be used on a range of routes while it's on the Island, with and without passengers on board, to check it's suitable for the local roads.

Isle of Man Transport confirmed last year that it would be trialling a range of new models over the coming months as it looks to replace some of its older stock.

Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer told Tynwald in April that electric buses could also be trialled on the Island in the future.
