Two huts were swept into the sea during the storm
The owner of Port Erin Beach Huts says she is determined to reopen after last weekend's storms and high tides damaged huts on the beach.
Two huts were swept into the sea during the storm, while another tipped over.
Owner Kathryn Hodgson said some of the timber may be salvageable, but the damage to the huts’ bases is a major concern.
A community effort helped move some huts out of danger ahead of further high tides with people and businesses responding to her appeal for help.
In total five huts were safely removed, with volunteers also helping recover a hut from the seam and another was moved to protect the neighbouring Kishtey Çheh Beach Sauna.
“Everyone’s just been amazing,” Kathryn said, thanking the people and businesses who gave their time, equipment and expertise.
The damage is likely to mean substantial repair and rebuilding costs with Kathryn admitting she is concerned about putting more money into the business before hopefully securing a longer tenancy for the site.
She said the huts provide a welcoming place for families and people of different ages to spend time together, and she does not want to give that up.
“We’ll be back, and I want to be back,” she said.
