House of Keys to sit again

Homestay, bad weather and red squirrels

In the first sitting after summer recess, the House of Keys sits today (Tue).

Six questions for oral answer, seven for written response, and an extensive deliberation of bills makes for a deceptively packed order paper.

Topics vary - from TT homestay fees to bad weather, and the introduction of red squirrels, to the Living Wage Report.

Middle member, Bill Shimmins, will move for Keys to arrange breaks in sittings during school half-terms and TT fortnight, in place of the summer adjournment.

Staying with schools, and ex-teacher; Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK, Jason Moorhouse, will ask the education minister why schools stay open in bad weather.  

Bills ready for first reading include the Credit Unions (Amendment) Bill 2017, second reading; the Road Transport, Licensing and Registration (Amendment) 2017.

Others for third reading; the Gambling Bill 2017 with 16 amendments, and the insertion of new clauses, then there's the Customs and Excise Bill 2017 to mull over.
