Property owners are making their homes an 'easy target' in the summer months, according to police.
Officers say open windows, doors and conservatories are encouraging burglars and opportunist thieves.
The Chief Constable's most recent Annual Report showed a slight increase in thefts during the month of July.
Residents are being urged to lock down their homes and, if windows must be kept open, to keep them on latch.
