Horse tram service overhaul on track

Surge in passengers reduces loss

Twenty thousand more people used the horse trams this year than in 2015.

The surge led to a £30,000 increase in revenue, although the service is still expected to record a loss of around £60,000.

In Tynwald today (15 Nov) Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer said passenger numbers had risen from 48,722 last year - when Douglas Council operated the service - to 69,542 this year when central government took over the running and slightly extended the season.

A 44% increase in revenue to £83,000 he said, would slash the estimated deficit:
