Minister asked for update in House of Keys

The infrastructure minister says his department intends to bring a business case for the full reinstatement of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway to May's sitting of Tynwald.

Tim Crookall faced questions on the future of the track in the House of Keys this morning.

Tynwald has been criticised recently over a lack of progress in this area, with the tramway currently only running from Derby Castle to Broadway despite a commitment to have it once again run the entire length of the promenade.

Earlier this month, historian Charles Guard publicly challenged Tynwald to complete the long-promised reinstatement saying "nothing has happened" in the nine years since the original commitment.

But Minister Crookall insists we will see the work completed within the next couple of years:

The minister says foundational work has been carried out under the grassed area where the horse tramway is intended to run.

A Douglas South MHK has also recently called on the Department of Infrastructure to bring forward a capital funding request, implementation plan and business case to reinstate the horse trams along the full length of Douglas Promenade by April's Tynwald sitting.

Sarah Maltby says she is 'frustrated' over the delays to the reinstatement project.
