Government working with telecoms provider to find a solution
It's hoped phone numbers for essential government services will be free by the middle of this month.
A number of medical phone lines, including GP surgeries, 111 and Noble's Hospital's main number, are among those identified as essential.
The income tax hotline, social security and the Job Centre are also to be included.
It comes following a recommendation by the Poverty Committee to ensure such services can be contacted for free.
The Cabinet Office says it's working with telecoms providers and a solution is due to be given to go-ahead by the Council of Ministers in the coming weeks.
