Hopes new laws will make vaping 'less attractive' to children

Public Health found 'a huge rise' in young people vaping

A new Act preventing the sale and supply of vaping products to those under the age of 18 has come into force this week.

The Vaping Bill 2023 was given Royal Assent last week meaning the Vaping Products Act now comes into effect. 

From yesterday (27 May) businesses that sell electronic cigarettes are not allowed to sell them to anyone below the age of 18. 

Retailers will also need to apply new advertising and display restrictions in their stores by September. 

Kate Lord-Brennan the MHK responsible for the bill told Manx Radio having restrictions in place now means vaping will be less attractive to children:

The Interim Director of Public Health Protection Caryn Cox told Manx Radio the restrictions were needed as they found 'a huge' rise in young people vaping: 

Long Time Coming

The owner of a vaping store in Douglas believes the bill prohibiting the sale of e-cigarettes to young people should have been implemented long ago.
