High winds could damage trees, says DEFA

'Strongly advising' people to be extra careful

Winds on the Island this afternoon are expected to reach up to 50 miles an hour.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says combined with the bad weather, it's expecting some damage to trees.

It's 'strongly advising' people to be extra careful, especially if planning on using the forests and glens this week.

Its team will be carrying out routine inspections along its most popular routes but wants anyone who spots anything to report it through DEFA's Facebook or by emailing forestry@gov.im.

Meanwhile the weather has been impacting travel today, and the Manx Grand Prix, which saw a qualifying session cancelled.

Tonight's Manannan sailing has been delayed by an hour.

It's now departing at 9.30pm, with passengers asked to check in no later than 8.45pm.

The Steam Packet says a decision on Tuesday and Wednesday's overnight Steam Packet sailings will be made by 5.30pm tomorrow.
