'High hopes' for good basking shark season

MWDW says a positive start to sightings could mean a turnaround for low numbers in recent years

There are high hopes for a good season of basking shark sightings in Manx waters this year.

Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch (MWDW) says it's already had six reported to it since the end of April.

Since 2010, basking shark numbers are said to have decreased dramatically in Manx waters. 

MWDW says we've gone from around 500 sighting reports per season in 2010 to just 10 last year.

But Jen Adams from the charity says she's hopeful to see an increase in numbers this year:

MWDW is asking for all sightings of basking sharks to be reported so they can keep an accurate log of the endangered animals.
