The Manx Missile officially opens raceway named after him

The Sir Mark Cavendish Raceway has officially opened at the National Sports Centre.

Earlier today (27 June), the Manx Missile himself unveiled the circuit in front of learners from the Island's schools, politicians, and onlookers.

Speaking on the podium after setting the track's fastest lap of one minute eight seconds, Mark Cavendish urged them to follow their dreams, adding he'd hope to one day in the future be asking them for their autograph at the Tour De France.

He described the event as a 'massive honour' for him and that this is 'the best place in the world':

Cav was given a guard of honour by members of the local cycling teams on the Island at the start of the event.

Members also joined him to do a few laps around the newly open circuit.
