Have your say on proposed changes to care provision

The Department of Social Care has launched a consultation to invite comments on proposals for the introduction of a Fair Access to Care Service - or FACS framework - and changes to charging for adult care services.

It's claimed the proposed changes aim to enable a fairer and more transparent system of assessment and charging for adult social care services to be introduced.

Minister Chris Robertshaw says the DCS is aiming to develop an approach to care provision that will be sustainable in the face of a growing and ageing population, and ensure greater fairness and transparency.

The changes are intended to ensure that people will have equal access to services regardless of their age or the nature of their needs and that those with the greatest needs will have priority.

The FACS framework also aims to ensure the support people receive will help them maintain their choice, independence and inclusion in society and that people using similar services will be charged more equitably.

The public consultation will run for six weeks ending at 5pm on Tuesday 2 April 2013.
