Manx Radio 55 years old today
It's happy birthday to . . . . . us!
Manx Radio was launched 55 years ago today at a reception in the Fort Anne Hotel, Douglas, by then Lieutenant Governor Sir Ronald Garvey.
Sir Ronald told the audience that Harold Colebourne had been the man who had "galvanized the Isle of Man's radio venture into action."
He then went to the caravan studio at the Whitebridge where he officially declared the station open in a live broadcast, ending with the station's then slogan, "Happy listening to you all!"
