32-year-old told police he was given it by 'unknown male' in Range Rover
A Douglas man has been further remanded at the Isle of Man Prison after being caught with a carrier bag full of cannabis.
Daniel James Glassey appeared at Douglas Courthouse today (11 July).
The 32-year-old admitted possessing the Class B drug with intent to supply it, outside his home, as well as a charge of possession.
Police arrived on Castle Drive, on 3 July, after Glassey was overhead talking about cannabis – they found him with the bag containing 97.5 grams of the substance and a set of weighing scales.
The court was told the drug had a street value of £2,000 – he was arrested and, when searched at Police Headquarters, officers found a further 0.4 grams of cannabis valued at £8, in his sock.
In interview Glassey told officers he’d been in need of money to pay his rent and had been contacted over the previous weekend by an ‘old friend’ who he’d disclosed his money troubles to.
He described how he was picked up from work that day by an ‘unknown male’ in a black Range Rover who had given him the carrier bag.
Glassey said when he’d been dropped off at home he’d had ‘second thoughts’ and had called the friend to get the man to come and take the cannabis back, however the police arrived first.
Committal proceedings – where the case is elevated to the Court of General Gaol Delivery – took place today.
Glassey will be sentenced before the higher court; there was no application for bail and he will next appear there on Friday (14 July).
