Schools to determine grades instead

GCSE and A-Level exams have been cancelled for Manx students, who'll instead have grades determined by their schools.

The Department of Education Sport and Culture made the announcement this morning, and says it has the full backing of secondary headteachers.

A new grading system will be developed around 'a range of assessments' between now and early June.

This could be made up of mock exams, coursework, essays and classroom-based tests 'to ensure the system is fair'.

The cancellation affects most general and technical courses, but some vocational ones which require practical exams will go ahead as normal.
