A symbolic act will take place at Noble's hospital later today (19 June) in the campaign for a new breast cancer treatment unit.
The first sod will be cut on the development, heralding the start of building work on the project.
Fund-raising began last year, led by consultant surgeon Millie Bello, who said facilities for breast cancer patients at Noble's were cramped and inadequate.
The unit will be built in a courtyard between the private patients' wing and Ward 2 .
It would offer diagnostic and treatment facilities and offer much greater privacy for the 3000 patients who visit clinics each year.
At tonight's ceremony, an update will be given on progress by the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group in reaching its £1.5 million target.
