Gritters out ahead of wintry weather

A Yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office, as the Island prepares for wintry weather over the coming days.

The Department of Infrastructure says it will be deploying bulk gritters to key arterial routes and heavy traffic hotspots.

Hail, snow and temperatures close to zero are forecast over the next few days, leading to the DoI taking precautions to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.

Roads to hospitals, fire stations and schools are given priority when it comes to gritting.

Key bus routes are also being taken into account, as are known problem areas.

Roads will be treated after the evening rush hour or from 5am before the morning commute.

Members of the public are being reminded they are to take responsibility for their own driveways and footpaths - with grit free to collect from civic amenity sites and yellow bins across the Island.
