Greeba woman avoids jail for driving whilst over three times the limit

38-year-old was convicted for 'identical offence' in 2019

A Greeba woman who drove despite being more than three times the legal limit has avoided prison.

Laura Rachel Bailey, of Kerrowgarrow Road, was caught by police driving through Crosby at 8:50pm on 5 June.

The 38-year-old was stopped by officers after she was witnessed veering into the opposing carriageway on a number of occasions.  

Bailey had a young child in the car with her at the time.

After being arrested at the roadside, she provided a sample at Police Headquarters with a reading of 111 - the legal limit is 35.

During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse, the court heard she was convicted for an 'identical offence' in 2019.

Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told Bailey her 'genuine clear remorse is evident' and that was 'further reinforced by [her] actions since the offence'.

It's as she has engaged with services such as Motiv8 in the months since the incident.

The Deputy High Bailiff imposed a 12-week custodial sentence, which has been suspended for two years and banned Bailey from the road for seven years.

At the end of that period, she'll have to take, and pass, an extended driving test.

Bailey was also ordered to pay £125 in prosecution costs.
