MLC offers to take on role
A former government minister says the current administration should appoint a politician with responsibility for looking after the welfare of the Island’s elderly.
It was revealed this week there are no plans to introduce a specific representative for the older generation, similar to the children, diversity and armed forces champions already in place.
MLC David Cretney, who earlier this year suggested Tynwald make such an appointment, says he would happily take on the role.
But insists the most important aspect is having someone to proactively champion the cause of the elderly and raise any concerns as they arise.
