Gov't pledge £200K following Turkey-Syria earthquakes

7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes affected 17-million people

The Isle of Man Government is sending £200,000 to support humanitarian relief work in Turkey and Syria following Monday’s earthquakes.

The money will come from the international development disaster and emergency relief budget.

The money will be split equally between the Disasters Emergency Committee and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

More than 22-thousand people are known to have died.

Cabinet Office Minister Kate Lord-Brennan has called the events ‘devastating’ and says ‘as a government it’s important to support the work of charities responding to the millions affected’.
