Gov’t forks out £19 million in overtime - £15m in allowances

Tynwald answer shows civil service salary bill

Public sector workers were paid £19 million in overtime and £15 million in allowances during the last financial year.

Information given in a written Tynwald answer, following a question tabled by Juan Watterson MHK, shows departments, boards, and offices paid staff a total of £380 million including pension payments.

More than 7,000 people work in the public sector on the Isle of Man.

The Department of Health and Social Care forked out £151 million to pay salaries, more than the departments of education and infrastructure combined.

A table has been released by Treasury which gives a breakdown of the figures, including employer’s national insurance contributions and superannuation.
