Treasury had budgeted for a 2% pay increase across government
Government doesn't have enough of a contingency fund to match pay rises given to public sector workers in the UK.
That's from Treasury Minister Alex Allinson who's been discussing the demand for pay awards while giving evidence to a Tynwald committee.
Treasury budgeted for a two per cent salary increase across government this year, but some workers across have been awarded six or seven per cent pay rises.
Dr Allinson says the funds aren't readily available to mirror the awards seen elsewhere:
