Government won't release bridge report 

The DoI has concerns over the Island’s financial interests

The government has refused to release a structural report on a bridge in Laxey citing concerns over the Island’s financial interests.

A freedom of information request asked for the most recent inspection report on the Woollen Mills Bridge on Glen Road.

In response to the request, the Department of Infrastructure said that the bridge's most recent general inspection was carried out on 16 July 2025 as part of its highway structures inspection programme.

However, officials declined to disclose the full structural report saying it contains detailed assessments of the bridge’s condition, including identified defects, maintenance requirements and recommendations for future works.

According to the DoI, making the information public could affect future procurement and contract negotiations relating to the inspection, maintenance and repair of the bridge, potentially increasing costs to taxpayers.
