Government proposes new pay deal for teachers

NAHT welcomes latest offer

Government has proposed a new pay deal for teachers this week, which may come as a breakthrough in the long-running industrial dispute.

If agreed, it would address historic pay award issues, see the creation of a partnership forum, and postpone the introduction of a new inspection regime.

It's been welcomed by the union which represents headteachers, and comes after weeks of negotiations with the education department.

The NAHT's Rob Kelsall says it will help 're-set the relationship between the DESC and schools.'

He explained more about the proposal to Ewan Gawne:

Government has been contacted for comment about the offer.
