Garff Commissioners to introduce parking restrictions for campervans

Will affect those who want to park on Laxey Promenade

Garff Commissioners will be introducing parking restrictions along Laxey Promenade for campervans.

The local authority says they're often left for a couple of days, on the seafront during TT and Manx Grand Prix periods, blocking parking spaces for others.

Visitors will still be able to use the facilities but they shouldn’t be staying more than one night.

Signs requesting people don’t stay for longer than 18 hours in 24 will be installed around the village.

It was something raised at a meeting of the local authority this week.

Another item that sparked a debate was the ongoing problems with the Northern Civic Amenity Site – or NCAS.

Garff pays into the eastern site for its residents in Laxey and Lonan and the northern site for those who live in Maughold.

The clerk attended the last meeting of the NCAS and said it’s asking the Department of Infrastructure for the £67,000 because it doesn’t want to put the burden on ratepayers.

He also said the committee is ‘firm’ in its decision to hand back the site next year to the DoI insisting they are the only ones who can sort the situation out.

Garff Commissioners will next meet on Wednesday 6, November.
