Fundraising to help people at risk of gas disconnections

A Little Piece of Hope calls on government to do 'crack down'

A children's charity on the Isle of Man is fundraising to help families at risk of having their gas cut off once a pause in disconnections resumes.

In November Isle of Man Energy revealed customers who had significant debt on their account would be cut off.

Thirty households have already been disconnected while a further 90 were planned to be.

However, former Office of Fair Trading chair John Wannenburgh stepped in requesting a pause - this was accepted.

The founder of Manx charity A Little Piece of Hope has setup a JustGiving page to raise money to assist people at risk. 

So far, they've collected £65.

Helen Sheppard told Manx Radio the collection will run for a month.

She added the need to setup the fundraiser came after she learnt that a household with a special needs child was disconnected weeks ago:
