Full reservoirs should mean no hosepipe bans this summer

MU says it's due to a very wet spring!

The chances of a hosepipe ban this summer seem remote after one of the wettest spring periods on record.

Local reservoirs are virtually full with combined stocks across the four main sites running at 99 percent.

The figure is much higher than the daily average of 84 percent recorded between 2015 and 2022.

A spokesperson for Manx Utilities told Manx Radio it would take an extreme weather event to require any restrictions to be imposed this summer.

Current reservoir levels are extremely healthy despite the annual spike in usage during the TT period.

As of 10 June total stocks were between 98 and 99 percent.

West Baldwin is 95 percent full, Clypse and Kerrowdhoo reservoirs in Onchan are 98 percent and 97 percent full respectively, and Sulby is 99 percent full.
